The Duotone Evo has been one of the most populair kitesfrom Duotone for years. A pleasure for beginners to advanced, from waterstarts to big air. For air acrobat Tom Hebert there is only one choice, the Evo 2020!

In his videos, he shows that you can really do everything with the Evo: freeride, freestyle, wave and kiteloops! The Duotone Evo is a super reliable kite and a favorite of many. That is why you might not expect any major changes to the Duotone Evo 2020, but that is certainly not the case.

The Evo has been in the Duotone line up for many years now, and in the constant search for improvement, it has become the best performing kite across all disciplines. Riders like Tom Hebert don’t let kiteboarding define them, and they love to do freestyle as much as they love old school big air and foiling. The Evo is Tom’s choice, as it doesn’t hold him back, no matter what he decides to do.

For 2020 we removed the pulleys from the bridle, this has the effect of increasing the responsiveness of the kite while still offering incredible depower. There is also a new trailing edge design incorporating a wave pattern that drastically reduces flutter and canopy wear in this critical area.

The Evo can be flown as a four or five line kite, and the three-strut delta design is ready for anything you decide to do.

As in all previous models, the Evo 2020 has a lightweight three-strut profile. The shape of the Evo 2020 can be described as a delta kite. This is one of the most comfortable kite profiles. The delta profile of the Evo ensures that the Evo can easily kite upwind, steers smoothly and has a super easy relaunch from the water. In addition, the Evo gives you a huge hangtime!

The canopy that is used in the Evo 2020 is made from the Trinity TX Teijin canopy that was exclusively designed for Duotone. This canopy has a combination of a double and triple ripstop fabric. The Trinity fabric gives you the perfect combination of performance and durability. The Evo 2020 is equipped with dacron and kevlar reinforcements at important points, making the Duotone Evo 2020 a kite that can take a beating. 

So, what’s new? It seems small, but the consequences are huge. The new Duotone Evo 2020 has a fixed bridle, instead of a pulley bridle. The leading edge also had to become stiffer due to this change. The result is that the Evo is more playful and direct. You now feel better where the Evo 2020 is in the wind window and what the kite is doing. In addition, the trailing edge pattern has been changed with the combination of materials and the tip geometry. In the video below the changes are discussed and explained by designer Ralph.

TRINITY TX

TRAILING EDGE FORCE CONTROL

The Trailing Edge Force Control is responsible for the smooth power distribution between the different materials of the kite, forcing the tensions in the right directions. Since 2013 the waves are higher and wider to eliminate stress points between the Dacron Trailing Edge and the Trinity TX Canopy material. This change in construction reduces fluttering marks and ensures that the material is not wearing out. 

LOAD DISTRIBUTION PANELS

As kite geometry improves, the canopy must continue to resist increasing forces. To spread these forces, Load-Distribution-Panels are used, holding the kite’s shape even under the most extreme loads. In practice this gives a smoother and more consistent performance from the kite in any riding situation. 

MODERN TRAILING EDGE DESIGN

A narrower trailing edge with a lighter combination of materials to reduce wear and to create a slicker kite profile. 

FUSION STRUT

This construction allows for a controlled distribution of forces between strut and leading edge. Struts are 100% connected to the leading edge with a flexible Dyneema line, which promotes higher canopy tension and a clean profile. 

HEAVY DUTY LEADING EDGE CLOSING SEAM

The leading edges of all kites are extremely durable due to a special heavy duty closing seam. The Dacron material at the leading edge is reinforced with a self sticky Insignia Tape and double stitched additionally. The Heavy Duty Leading Edge Closing Seam is resistant to very high tensions and diagonal forces. 

DOUBLE-V PIGTAILS

These pigtails distribute the load of the line connections to the kite, minimizing the risk of fatigue, making the kite less prone to distortion and helps it to steer more smoothly. 

KOOK PROOF CONNECTORS

The kook proof line connection points prevent accidents by guaranteeing that you cannot accidentally connect your lines incorrectly when rigging your kite. 

SELF RESCUE HANDLES

The self-rescue handles on the inside of the wingtips can be easily found in case of an offshore break down. They provide a good, comfortable grip while sailing back to the shore during a self-rescue manoeuvre. 

ANTI SNAG

The Anti Snag webbing is preventing the lines from tangling around the tip of the kite. Waterstarts are made easier and safety is increased.
