Totally new, totally radical and built with the greatest addiction: ID ultralight - the signature model of Victor Fernandez Lopez, Wave World Champion 2010! As the name suggests the ID is a mix between ICE and Duke, which combines the best of both worlds (up to 5.0 based on the ICE design, 5.4 and bigger based on the DUKE design). The result is a super lightweight Freestyle Wave sailing range, which uses the futuristic high-tech laminate “ODL” from yacht sails instead of traditional XPly. This material is 50% lighter than conventional sail cloth and pushes the weight to incredibly low values. Already the first tests had shown that we were at the beginning of a revolution. No matter who got the brand new HERO 4 batten wave sail in their hands, no one wanted to give it back. The HERO is adjusted towards Marcilio Browne who does not want to sail with any other sail anymore - it just fits perfectly to his sailing style and the new multi-fin wave boards! details Almost everything is different: The HERO is the impressive result of an ultra modern 4 batten wave sail, which is repleted with the finest components and technical know-how. Regardless of under- or properly powered up, too much pressure or too little, this sail always generates power without becoming unstable. The fifth evolution of the DUKE. No other sail can cover such a broad range from Wave to flat-water Freestyle! No other sail adapts to all conditions and surprises with its versatility. To achieve this versatility far-reaching innovations and countless prototypes tested in different conditions were necessary. Therefore designer Kai Hopf has involved the whole team to guarantee that the DUKE works for any rider and any condition.
No wonder as the evolution from the 2011 DUKE never stopped. The main objective of the team was an even better handling to allow for even more radical freestyle tricks through a reduced swing weight. All ICE sizes were designed for RDM masts, but are still compatible with SDM masts. That’s why the new ICE feels softer and can be easily controlled and pumped onto the plane. These abilities are also supported by the modified luff curve and the optimized leech tension.

For us, the EGO represents a symbol of innovation, built with exceptional materials to incorporate the latest trends in sail design. Yet despite our passion for innovation, we are true to our motto „innovation follows function“. With this in mind, Kai Hopf developed the BALANCED.LUFF.LENGTH, a precisely balanced ratio of luff length to boom length. As short and compact as possible for radical handling and as long as necessary for a decent twist, and ensuring maximum wind range. In order to achieve sensible sizes, Kai uses the proven NORTH SAILS CROSS.BATTEN.CONCEPT in combination with the CUTAWAY.CLEW, that’s reaped real benefits in handling. When it comes to the number of battens, Kai is fairly conservative, since good high-end control and a wide wind-range still demand 5 battens.
IMPORTANT: the EGO is our first sail exclusively designed for RDM masts due to its special elastic characteristics. The smaller mast diameter perfectly matches this softer feeling sail and shorter luff.
Very rarely so many physically different windsurfers became so intensively involved in the development of a single sail. This time heavyweights Jimmy Diaz and Kai Hopf put in their time as well as our flyweight freestylers Gollito, Brawzinho and André Paskowski. As a result we believe no other sail can cover the entire range from waves to flat water Freestyle as perfectly as the new DUKE.
The basic requirements for a Power Wave and a Freestyle sail are very similar: great planing potential combined with maximum handling and good controllability. The DUKE sizes up to 5.4m2, were designed as powerful Wave sails. By possessing the greatest trimming versatility of all our Wave sails, the DUKE ’s easily controlled by medium weight riders too. With the help of the brand new TWIN.TRIM.CLEW the variance of trim has improved again for 2010.
For sizes 5.9m2 and above, Kai Hopf improved the new DUKE strictly according to the specifications of our Double Freestyle World Champion Jose “Gollito” Estredo, Vice Freestyle World Champ Brawzinho and EFPT Champion André Paskowski. Already featuring 5 battens and HYPER.LEECH II it was the optimized foot geometry that really improved this season’s breakthrough in handling for modern Freestyle tricks. All DUKE models are made to suit SDM masts, which ideally fit this type of direct-feeling sail.

After all, however, no other sail can cover the entire range from wave to flatwater Freestyle as perfectly as the new DUKE.

Since it possesses the greatest trimming versatility of all our Wave sails, it can also be easily controlled by medium-weight pilots. The use of stable X.PLY 725 in the centre panel of the small DUKE increases durability, leaves room for reserves, and underscores the suitability of the small DUKE for waves.
For sizes 5.9m² and above, Kai Hopf improved the new DUKE strictly according to the specifications of our Freestyle World Champion Jose “Gollito” Perez and EFPT Champion André Paskowsky. Although 5 battens and HYPER.LEECH II were already part of the standard equipment in the previous year, it is the reworked, less nervous TT.TOP and the slightly reduced sail foil tension of the current model that really optimize behaviour and allow for easier pumping, controlling, and more sensitive steering of the rig, especially when carrying out difficult Freestyle tricks. All DUKE models are made to suit SDM masts, which ideally fit this type of a more direct sail.
