After finishing our new sail lines, we chose to use only the best masttechnology to complete our sail range. F2 offers the latest shapes in mast technology with reduced diameter (RDM), or in a classic design standard diameter (SDM). In addition, we used polyamide - which is 60 times more resistant to abrasion than bare carbon - to reinforce our booms.

We used the new 2-Ply laminate for the cross as we again found a 10% savings in the top area, and the soft feeling was an extra gain for the range of use of this sail. "I worked on the leech twist as well, making it more smooth top to bottom to get a more balanced power output" comments Peter. The evolved radial panel layout balances the load distribution within the sail body and the 6 batten configuration with 4 tube battens makes the Cross ultra stable in the higher wind range. Now all sizes fit on the 2 mast concept and all sails are both compatible with SDM or RDM masts. We also dropped the 7.4 size as it did not make sense for this size- better to go with the Matrix.
I couldn't believe how easy this sail was to hang on to. If felt like I had nothing in my hands and I was going SOOOOO Fast. I haven't been that fast ever! I could duck jibe the sail with ease and pass my buddies all day long- that was FUN!

For 2013 I worked on the twisting pattern of the leech, I opened it a bit more down low to gain a more balanced and progressive feeling. Also it has more profile in the front to pull more in the low end"says Peter. Unnecessary roundings in the outline have been eliminated. The radial panel layout combined with the colored C-Film make it very distinguishable and long lasting due the high UV resistance and intelligent construction. We also improved the tube batten specs which further the performance and stability of the sail. We put a vario top on the 6,0 and 6,5 to make it compatible with a 460 mast and extend the sizes compatible with this mast.
When I am out for a good time in the flat water, the Matrix makes my day. I can go fast early, jibe with ease and pass my friends with ease. I ride it on my big free ride board in 12 knots and it works perfectly!

The Cosmic is basically the sister of the Matrix with 2 cambers. It fits in the same category of freeride sails but features a slightly wider mast sleeve and 2 small cambers. The cambers give the sail a more locked in feeling as they keep the profile more stable in one place. The slightly wider mast sleeve at the camber area has zippers that make rigging ultra easy. The rotation of the cambers is super soft and smooth. The Cosmic has good power and planes very early while maintaining exceptional performance through a wide range of use. The outline with the cross boom batten combined with the dropped clew keeps the center of effort low and the boom length moderate. Closing the gap is enhanced by the low foot outline.
As with all 2013 sails I cut excess roundings off the outline of the Cosmic. I modified the leech twist parameters to make it open a bit more low as we learned from the development of the Vapor sails. This makes the twist more smooth and the power output more balanced and progressive. The shape in front at the 2 cambers was increased to make it pull more from the front. As with all our flatwater sails we used the new colored and UV resistant C-Film which is like a trademark of the new Gaastra sails making them immediately recognizable on the water. The radial panel layout smoothly distributes the loads inside the sail body and enhances stability and performance" comments Peter.
This sail is alive and kicks! It is stable and loaded with speed. I noticed the quick acceleration when sailing in the gusty winds of my lake. It surprised me how easy it was to coast through the lulls.
Bottom Line:
It will be hard to find any sail that will come close to the two Cam Cosmic. A locked in shape that delivers greatness for all flat water conditions.

--------------- The Phantom is the cambered sister of the Savage and the little brother of the Vapor. It features 7 battens and 3 cambers and a moderately wide mast sleeve. A Drop tack makes it easy to close the gap, drop clew with outhaul pulley and pronounced cross batten drop are standard features for this high performance sail.Two big race cams and one small cam at the foot batten lock in shape and stability. The Phantom much like the Vapor have an aerodynamic boom cutout closure with neoprene to keep water and air turbulence away. The top half of the mast sleeve is made of KI05 aramid laminate, which is light and strong and due to its flexing properties produces our SAS system (Shock absorption system), a dynamic twist that absorbs the chop and produces instant acceleration. This sail is more than capable of winning races!
The 2013 Phantom underwent the same diet as our other hi performance sails. We reduced width of some reinforcements around the perimeter of the sail and reduced the length of the mini battens, all taking off ounces of unnecessary material without affecting function or durability. The inset clew has been replaced by a high performance dropped clew at the cross batten. Similar to the evolution of the Vapor, the twist down low in the leech has been enhanced to get a more progressive and smooth behavior and the profile at the front cambers is increased to make the sail pull more from the front. "I modified the angle of the top battens to stabilize more the head of the sail. I cut excessive roundings off the outline making the head and foot of the sail more straight"says Peter. Radial panel layout and colored UV resistant C-Film complete the attributes of the Phantom.
I like to go out and smoke my friends on the lower end race sails….. then they can only imagine what I will do to them when I get on the Vapor- The Phantom is unbelievable, I can spritz just about anyone on it!

This NO-CAM sail is one of the fastest on the water! For 2012, we have adapted it to the new outline of the race winning Vapors.. Now we have a compact sail with a relatively short luff, that utilizes 7 battens instead of eight (four of them are tube battens). The new Savage is equipped with the Inset Clew System that allows the leach to twist out sooner so you can hang on longer.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
Seven battens, no cams, a cross batten in the boom area and the Inset Clew System makes the Savage a real speed machine. The Radial Panel Layout provides a better profile alignment, a more harmonious twist behavior and it makes the sail stronger. The foot area sets up smooth and the bottom window of the sail has been reinforced again. On a straight line there is no need to hide from other race sails- the Savage will deliver speed almost like any race sail. The sail is light and balanced in your hands. The pressure point is positioned slightly further forward and ensures light back hand pressure. The sail accelerates extremely fast and easy without losing speed or control. Even if you go full gas into the jibe, the silky smooth rotation system ensures that you loose no speed or balance. An incredible feeling! The new Savage brings 95% of its power with our 75 percent carbon mast already. If you want the last 5 percent, you will need to upgrade to the Gaastra 100 percent carbon mast.

The Cosmic is a complete redesign of the ever-popular Swift. Compact outline, a low foot and a Crossbatten running through the boom area are the new striking features of this Swift replacement. The new Crossbatten better supports the two cambers above and below the boom. These are the two longest battens in the sail and the Crossbatten provides a more stable pressure point to balance the profile when loaded. The Cosmic rigs easily and trims to perfection!
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
With six battens, 2 cambers and the two newly developed cross battens, the Cosmic is dialed in for fast freeriding. The slightly wider sleeve in the area of the cambers allows the Cosmic to be rigged like a modern race sail. First trim the luff and leech and then “pop” the cambers on the mast. This protects the mono film and speeds the rigging up. The mast slides into the sail almost by itself. Like this the Cosmic is almost easier to rig than a sail without cambers. The Radial Panel Layout provides a better profile alignment, more harmonious twist behaviors and a much more durable sail. The foot area is free of folds and the bottom window of the sail is heavily reinforced. The tube battens together with the two cambers provide ultimate stability while the smooth rotation of the cams make it easily maneuverable. The low-cut foot can hang up on the board easily. The Cosmic is developed on our Gaastra 55 and 75 percent carbon masts and match them perfectly. Whether with a Freeride, Free Race or slalom board, the Cosmic knows no limits.
